Alexa Gambero, Project Associate for the Center

Alexa grew up in Fresno, California and currently lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. She earned her BA in Communication Studies and English from Saint Mary’s College of California, where she completed a senior capstone project focused on social media and its use as a surveillance mechanism. In addition to her studies, Alexa was Editor-in-Chief of the SMC student newspaper, The Collegian, and a founding member of the College’s chapter of Spoon University.

As an undergraduate, Alexa completed over 250 hours of service at local nonprofit organizations. After graduation, she joined the AmeriCorps VISTA program in partnership with SMC’s Catholic Institute for LaSallian Social Action. During her year of full-time service, Alexa was stationed at an East Bay food pantry and family resource center where she participated in community outreach events, increased food-related resources for her clients, and mentored students in grant writing.

Alexa is now Program Coordinator at the East Bay food pantry she served for a year as a VISTA volunteer. She continues her work toward eradicating poverty by ensuring that low-income individuals and families have access to the safety net services provided by the pantry. When she’s not working, Alexa enjoys cooking and reading and hopes to adopt a dog in the near future.
